The three fundamental principles of explosion protection are: Containment, where an explosion is confined to a safe area; Prevention, by avoiding the formation of an explosive atmosphere (primary) or preventing ignition sources from causing one (secondary); and Segregation, physically separating explosive materials from ignition sources. These principles are applied in a prioritized order, often following the STOP principle (Substitution, Technical, Organizational, Personal), to minimize risks and limit the consequences of potential explosions.
